Title:"Theoretical Explanations of Rapid Fertility Decline in Korea"
Prof. Kim appears even in Japanese newspapers these days commenting on Korean low fertility, but he is one of the most distinguished demographers in Korea and has been a consultant to the Korean National Statistical Office. He has been analyzing not only the population of South Korea but also that of North Korea, Korean Chinese and overseas Koreans. He edited a census monograph, The Population of Korea (KNSO, 2004) and contributed an overview chapter, "Population Growth and Transition." Dr. Suzuki is a Japanese expert on formal demography and Korean population and published "Lowest Low Fertility in Korea and Japan" (J. of Population Problems, vol.59, No.3) comparing very low fertility in the two countries mainly form a formal demographic perspective. Prof. Kim will also give a lecture on sex ratio at birth in Korea at Ochanomizu University(http://www.igs.ocha.ac.jp/f-gens/) on Jan. 11 (Tue.).
