Delegation from the Minister for Older People and Social Security

On October 3rd 2024, a delegation of 13 members led by Anna Tenje, Minister for Older People and Social Security of Sweden, visited IPSS.
Dr. HAYASHI Reiko, Director-General, gave a presentation titled “Population trend and policies in Japan”, in which she explained the changing population of Japan, the history of changes in fertility and policy measures, trends in mortality and related policies, the regional distribution of the population and regional characteristics, the international migration of Japan and its policies, etc. The delegation asked questions about the differences between the birth patterns in Japan and Sweden, the effects of measures to counter low fertility, and the increasing foreign population. Minister Tenje explained Sweden's childcare support measures and the relationship between the economic situation and fertility.
