Delegation of the Committee on the Labor Market, Swedish Parliament

On September 4, 2023, the Delegation led by Ms.Teresa Carvalho, Deputy Chair of the Committee on the labor market, Swedish Parliament, and members from the Embassy of Sweden to Japan, including Ambassador Pereric Högberg visited IPSS (21 people in total). Dr.Reiko Hayashi, Deputy Director General of IPSS gave a presentation titled "Population trend and policies in Japan. She explained Japan's population change, fertility change and fertility policy history, life expectancy, mortality trends by cause of death including COVID-19, regional distribution of population, foreign population and labor force, and so on. Delegation members asked questions about measures to cope with the declining birthrate, marriage support measures, fertility treatment coverage in Japan, and the optimal population size.
