IAP Conference “Science for Poverty Eradication and Sustainable Development: A Call for Action”

From the 3rd to the 5th December 2014, hosted by the Brazilian Science Academy, the IAP (the Global Network of Science Academies) organized a conference entitled “Science for Poverty Eradication and Sustainable Development: a Call for Action” in Manaus, Brazil. From Japan, Aya Abe (Director, Department of Empirical Social Security Research) attended and presented a paper entitled “Population aging & Poverty in Japan: Learning mistakes from the front-runner among non-Western nations” which articulated the relationship between population aging, changing household structures, inequality and poverty, and fiscal crisis in Japan. The presentation was received with much interests from participants from newly emerging economies.
