The National Institute of Population and Social Security Research published a report in October 1998, titled, "Household Projections for Japan" (abbr.: The National Projections). The results of the report provided the basis for this new report on the estimated number of households by prefecture.
We published three reports on the number of households estimated by prefecture in 1966, 1971, and 1995. This report will be our fourth publication following the March-1995 report titled, "Household Projections for Japan by Prefecture." In terms of estimates by family type, this is the second account succeeding the 1995 report. In this report, a category defined as "parents and children households" is segregated into two categories, "couple only households" and "parent and children households." Consequently, we have a list of five family types in this new report.
