In comparison with fiscal year 2004, child welfare services decreased by 17%. The total Social Security Expenditure for child and family decreased by 2.3% from the previous year. The central government no longer provides grants for this service and thus the data can not be estimated as before. If the cost of children's daycare service is estimated at approximately 332.2 billion yen, the rate of increase was 8.2% from the previous year and its share became 4.0% of the overall social security expenditure.
