Abstract:
Many European countries, without immigration, would suffer a substantial population decline in the next three or four decades.
At the same time, migration policies tend to become more restrictive and selective, and most countries are envisaging a reduction of immigration flows,
partly in response to the ongoing economic crisis. The conversation will focus, in particular, on the situation of Southern Europe and the continuing
demographic and economic pressures pushing migration flows from Northern Africa and Sub Saharan Africa. Two specific problems will be also dealt with:
the management of irregular (undocumented) migration, and the increasing presence of Islamic immigration.
*Presentation and discussion will be in English.
